Build High Performing Teams Podcast

Feb 25, 2020

Alright Hipos, I'm so excited you're joining us today! Thank you for listening to the Build High Performing Teams Podcast. My guest today was my coach last year in 2019. She is a best selling author, speaker and founder of multiple seven-figure businesses. She is also a children's book author. She is a baller if I've ever met one. She runs a mastermind that I was a part of last year. But really, we spend most of our time talking about her career journey. How did she follow her strengths? How did she build up this huge empire of a variety of things? And we even talk about what it's like to work and do business with her family, including her sister and her husband. I'm hoping you get a lot out of this episode in terms of how you can manage your own career, whether you are an entrepreneur or an intrapreneur, how you can leverage your own strengths and really understand how to put a plan together to achieve the things that you're looking to achieve.

“I definitely had that imposter syndrome of “Oh, why would I? What am I going to teach you?” type of thing. So I had a local karate studio reach out and I thought, “Well, that's weird. What does he want to talk to me about?” You know? And he just said, “Can I take you to lunch? Can I pick your brain? What are you doing over here?” I'm like, wow, okay, I guess I really do know a lot. And I started to gain more confidence the more I started to meet with people. At minute 7:52, Stacy talks about how she experienced imposter syndrome when other business owners started reaching out to connect with her. She tells us that her confidence grew as she continued to meet with other entrepreneurs in her area.

“Well, it's great that we have peers that we can go to and ask, but they don't know the ins and outs of your business like your team does. So I might ask a very different question to a friend that I would go back to my team too, because my team knows everything we did a week ago, a month ago, a year ago. Right? Versus a friend. They don't know every little detail. And it's just going to be different. Advice or opinions. At 21:47, Stacy talks about the difference between taking advice or opinions from your peers in business and your team. She emphasizes that your team is more knowledgeable about the intricacies of your business, which will bring you greater results.

“Fortunately, I was able to witness my parents working together and then my grandparents working together. So I get to see the husband and wife dynamic because I already know that my sister is a little bit different than my husband will be. But there are definitely some big takeaways. I think the biggest thing I learned with my sister was (and it took many years for us to really get this team to work together) we needed to figure out where our lanes were. And then we needed to stay in our lanes and not get into each other’s lanes. So we definitely take ownership of certain things. At minute 29:22, Stacy talks about working with family in her businesses and how she had a great example of work ethics from her parents while she was growing up. She also notes the differences between working with a sibling versus a spouse.

Stacy shared a lot of valuable information about building your career and working with family. She also gave a lot of helpful tips to fellow entrepreneurs, so make sure to stay tuned!
