Build High Performing Teams Podcast

Feb 5, 2020

All right. I say authentic. And you? Overall, I'm sure you're rolling your eyes. I get it. But listen. Authentic leadership, is so true to what Nikki Innocent is all about. I think you're gonna love this conversation. And what you're going to hear is two big hearted coaches who truly care about humans and just kick out all the topics that are like that. Nikki Innocent, like me, was corporate bread but now she's out in the world being a coach and entrepreneur. She is a podcast host of "Check Box Other," which has really in-depth conversations with other change makers and I love the uniqueness of her approach. She's also both a keynote speaker and a fellow tech speaker. So enjoy the time and give authentic leadership a chance as we listen to Nikki talk about how she moved from sort of that quirky, bossy young leader to really an evolved boss. So enjoy.

Business was something that felt very concrete. It wasn't something I thought I was interested in, really. I just felt like it was safe. And I wanted to create a safe space for me to be able to kind of lay the foundation of the next parts of my life. Cause so much had happened that felt like it was out of my control. At minute 8:18, Nikki talks about a time in her life when circumstances were out of her control but she used her energy to focus on her passion and career in her future, something she took full reign of and gained control over.

Giving yourself not only the time to prioritize the bullets on the job description, but really to prioritize the bullets in your life of who you are, how you bring your best self, but also the best energy to the party and what can help you grow into the person you want to be. Because I promise you, when you identify those, you can map them to the thing that's productive within your organization. At 19:41, Nikki talks about how she intentionally took time for reflection, self awareness, and personal development.

Self compassion specifically, I think is so important. I'm doing the best I can. I'm going to continue to do the best that I can. I'm not going to be perfect, but that's OK. Not meaning, I get a pass because I didn't do something. But like, I'm not going to beat myself up because I think what happens, especially when we get to a point where we see what we didn't do well, we beat ourselves up and then we default back to kind of the concrete analytical stuff to show stuff. At minute 45:58, Nikki talks about giving yourself grace and compassion as a leader, both for the sake of your team and yourself.

Nikki shared a lot of valuable information about how she is always trying to express herself authentically in her personal life and in her business. She also gave a lot of helpful tips to fellow entrepreneurs, so make sure to stay tuned!
